Is Your Sex Change Deductible? and Other Distractions

by sean on July 25th, 2007

Sometimes there’s so much good stuff flying across my blogoscope that I must share it with fellow distractees.

He Sued, She Sued. Kelly over at TaxGirl.com asks: Should sex changes be tax deductible? The US Tax Court will hear arguments in a case (on behalf of 63 year old Rhiannon O’Donnabhain) that argues that a “gender identity disorder” is a medical condition and that transgender surgery is a proper treatment.

I vote they give Rhiannon O’Donnabhain the deduction if she agrees to De-Celtify her (?) name. How’s Rio O’Dobbin sound?

Are You a Courageous Blogger? asks Brian Clark over at the disgustingly popular and ridiculously good Copyblogger. I love the picture of the mountainclimber on this post. You can’t tell whether he’s about to complete an expert ascent or plunge to a certain and foolish death. Like how I feel most days…

Developing your corporate blog at Behind the Buzz happened to be my Buzz-Kill for the day. Now I’m supposed to feel BAD about spamming for links?

“Bush to Cede Power to VP During Colonoscopy” or anything at Brandcurve. You’ve got to love a blog that draws from both moronland.com (Top 13 Worst Slogan Translations) and Modern Drunkard magazine (Top 10 Alcohol Icons)

A few years ago my wife and I wanted to start a restaurant called “Bon Appesleep!” You would eat a big, starchy home cooked meal in one room and then retire to another done up like a den full of couches, chez lounges, and day beds for a nap….

I believe that restaurant is called, “My Parents’ House”

I chose that picture because that’s how I feel most days, too. It never goes away, but that’s a good thing. :)

It’s about HOW you ask for links. It’s about understanding the culture of the blogger and what they do. Gapingvoid and Seth Godin (the two referenced in the article) are the last ones you would ever ask. Others are more likely to be OK with it.

The first thing I talk about when looking for links and sending out information to bloggers and asking them to write about you is ‘understand the blogger’. I’ve got 3-4 posts about this, all pretty much the same idea; this one just picked up with yet another agency who did not read the lessons first. But they are learning.
