Is QuikDrop a Great Franchise Opportunity?

by sean on April 20th, 2007

Despite the fact that the viability of the eBay drop-off store franchise model has been questioned by many inside and outside the online auction industry (notable on amitheonlyone.org)… Despite the fact that industry pioneer and leader iSold It has closed 60 stores, suspended franchise sales and is fending off lawsuits from failed franchisees… eBay drop-off store franchise company QuikDrop remains upbeat in its franchise advertising. Here’s an excerpt from their current online ads:

According to QuikDrop, there are still unlimited opportunities to be seized:

We train you to become an eBay expert and our proprietary software makes it easy to manage your customer base. As the expert in your town, you have unlimited opportunities for helping your community while marketing your business.

Why A QuikDrop Franchise?

  • There is a gigantic demand for our services - Talk about our business model with any of your friends or family and they always say, “Wow, what a great idea.” The market potential in the USA alone is over $30 billion per year.
  • Low startup cost - The logo, store design, product line, marketing materials, software etc are already done and tested. The QuikDrop franchise fees are far less than the cost to re-invent the wheel.
  • Lower cost of doing business - Our operational systems and software reduce your cost to run the store and our branding reduces the cost of customer acquisition.
  • Better exit strategy - When it comes time to sell your business in the future, a franchised business usually sells for much more money. Would you rather sell a sandwich shop or a SUBWAY sandwich shop? Franchises are easier to sell because they typically have an established price point that other locations have sold for and corporate backing for training and operational support.
  • Local field support - QuikDrop puts in place local “Area Developers” who assist in new store openings and provide ongoing support for our systems and procedures.
  • Flat-rate royalty - It’s simple, fair and it rewards success. Our job is to develop the business with our franchise owners, not to debate royalties or look for oversights. Royalty agreements based on a percentage-of-sales invariably lead to conflicts, especially if the franchise owner has a pre-existing eBay business.
  • International business strategy - We are already opening QuikDrop stores outside of the USA and will continue to do so. Besides giving foreign QuikDrop stores branded access to USA markets, foreign bidders are more likely to bid on QuikDrop auctions in the USA when they are familiar with our brand. Since most of eBay’s growth is international, it is foolish not to participate proactively in foreign markets.
  • It’s always the people - The quality of our corporate staff, our area developers and our franchise owners is simply second to none. We continue to attract the finest talent from a variety of disciplines. The best laid plans are all for nothing if you don’t have the best people to implement them. We have the best people.

Is QUIKDROP really succeeding while iSold It, with much the same business model, is fighting for survival? Have they successfully overcome the challenges that eBay drop-off store critics contend make the concept unworkable? What do you think?

YOU’RE INVITED TO LEAVE A COMMENT ON WHETHER YOU THINK THE QUIKDROP EBAY AUCTION FRANCHISE IS A GREAT FRANCHISE OPPORTUNITY.

No, QuikDrop is not a great franchise opportunity.
QuikDrop does not provide adequate support or training and many of their Franchises have closed as well. Their software is a joke and their fees make it impossible to turn a profit. They will let anyone open one of these stores. Noone will even show up for your opening! Do not waste your money. The QuikDrop “family” is the kind of family that never comes around unless they are begging for money! There is a major group lawsuit in the works against these people for many violations. Store owners have lost everything, and QuikDrop continues to open up stores. They had many promises in the beginning, but almost immediatley, incentives, other income avenues and advertising were all revoked. These people are swindling money away from the hard working Store Owners.

I formerly owned a quikdrop store. What a joke! I would laugh except for the mountain of money I lost. Jack and Murray are the biggest crooks. If you go to the quikdrop website and count the stores there are only 32 (1 coming soon) open currently. They had 85 or so at their peak, but are falling at a rapid rate. They are going out of business FAST! Run away from this opportunity (and I use that word as a joke).

What a crock!!!Please I went to one public storage place they said they had a “deal” with well they didn’t even know who Quikdrop was! not only that she said everything we aution off is garbage that people don’t even want!!! you know that crap people came in with and you made $12.00 on. I want to know where all these law suits are and how many there are. If anyone knows the answer to this pleas post it. Maybe if we all get together we can do something. I lost my entire retirement!!! So screw you Murry and Jack!

Can anyone tell Joe how to go about getting his money? Would QuikDrop corporate have collected the money? contact Quikdrop corporate? NY Attorney General? What about filing a complaint with eBay?

Sorry to hear about your loss, Joe. These stories put an additional strain on all drop-off stores trying to attract customers.

There is a major law suit going on in California and Florida. Get in touch with CHUCK PERKINS in California. CALL 951-712-6322. He was a Quikdrop owner himself and was the second store to open in the Palm Springs area. He especially wants to talk to anyone who closed their store in 2005. Good Luck and pass the info on to who ever you can so we can all win this battle!

I’ve been ripped off by Quikdrop franchisee’s and then I called the offices and the phone number is disconnected. Go ahead and try it. Then the email I sent came back to me as ” no longer exists” Bad business leaders. I would’t touch them with a 100 foot pole!
