Defunct iSoldIt Franchise Owner Continues to Pay
The East Lansing Record reports that the franchise owner of the area’s now-defunct iSold It franchise is struggling to pay customers whose goods they sold on eBay, but that a scam and sabotage from an ex-employee is hampering his efforts.
iSold It franchise owner Randal Plaunt closed the store April 28. He claims that he’s been mailing out checks to customers for merchandise the store sold for them in eBay online auctions. His efforts have been made difficult by the prior actions of a former manager he claims embezzled from him The same manager may have deleted records, Plaunt claims.
According to the story:
“We have been processing checks all along,” said Plaunt, who opened the store in November 2005 at 3499 Lake Lansing Road. “We just processed $12,000 in checks. But it’s difficult to process if the record has been erased.
“Our goal is to make sure everybody gets paid. That’s the fair thing to do.”
Plaunt declined to name the former employee, whom he said is being prosecuted. Meridian Township police confirmed there was an arrest related to the store, but details weren’t immediately available Tuesday afternoon.
One woman had dropped off a thermal infrared massage be, which iSold It had sold for $3000. The bed was damaged in shipping and returned to the store. When she returned to the store for the bed, she found the door locked with a note that they were out of business.
