SITE POLICIES & GUIDELINES
In progress, as the thought and/or need arises.
FOR THE COMMENTERS: Frequently Thought and Occasionally Asked Questions
Do I have to use my real name and email address to comment?
Real name? No. Just don’t use someone else’s real name.
Real email address? Yes. It’s not visible to anyone and we won’t share it with anyone. But we may want to check with you to verify that you’re really that pithy.
Are there rules for leaving comments?
Just a couple. Do not make any physical threats or use intimidating language. Do not put personal contact info (yours or others’) into comments. Don’t use the site to (blatantly) troll for business… at least not without asking permission first. Don’t be a shill… you’ll almost always be outed.
What are the FranchisePick.Com mottos for commenters?
Our main FranchisePick.Com Commenter motto: It’s nice to be nice.
Our back-up motto: Attack the argument, not the arguer.
Our last resort motto: Reserve your ire for the scumsucking vermin* that just put in a marble foyer with your life savings, not your fellow victims.
If I leave slanderous comments, will you rat me out to the Federalis?
Only in extreme cases, such as if you’re a pedophile, personal injury attorney or voted Bush in for a 2nd term. But don’t write anything you wouldn’t be willing to say in court - because you might get the chance. I’ve watched enough Law & Order episodes to know there’s no anonymity on the Internet. Or elsewhere.
FOR THE COMMENTED UPON: Frequently Thought and Occasionally Asked Questions
I don’t like you or your stupid website. Can I sue you?
No.
People are saying untrue, unfair and/or nasty things about my company in your comments. I demand you delete their comments.
That’s not a question. Plus, we don’t delete or edit comments except for very few almost nonexistent reasons that don’t pertain to you (actual threats, personal contact information, spam). Our comment sections are open, unregulated forums and as such we are not responsible for the opinions and content of our commenters. This is one reason the answer to the previous question is “No,” and we intend to keep it that way.
Slanderous and untrue comments are hurting our business.
If the allegations are untrue, then feel free to disprove them with a factual response either in the comments or by requesting a post with your side of the story (which you can provide via email to info[at]ideafarm.net). Believe it or not, the truth will usually be apparent once both sides are told.
If the allegations are true and you are working to remedy the situation, state that.
If the allegations are true and you really are the vile dog they claim you are, it probably would be better to keep that to yourself. Just know you’ll be more successful doing things legitimately. Plus, the whole afterlife thing.
Keep in mind that if negative allegations are appearing here, they are surely being spread by word of mouth, email, smoke signals and possibly depositions. Even if we deleted them here, they’d reappear somewhere else. It’s better to join the dialogue and address it in the open. While it might not seem as such when you’re being attacked, we will give you a fair opportunity to dispel the negative. The same attention hurting your business can be turned around to be a positive, in most cases.
What’s with the smart-aleck attitude?
This site deals with many emotionally charged situations, opinions and people. A little levity… raises all ships, or something. As French philosopher Jimmy Buffett said in his epic Margaritaville, “If we weren’t all crazy, we would go insane.”
And besides, I’m a smart-aleck.
We’re just having a conversation here. Contact me about any of this at info[at]ideafarm.net.
